AI visibility · a true story about a medal

This wine cost €2.50.
It won a gold medal.

A public broadcaster relabeled the cheapest, worst-rated wine on the shelf and entered it in a contest. It won gold.

Now swap the bottle for your company. When a buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for "someone like you," the same blind tasting picks a name. CitePulse shows you whether it's yours.

GOLD MEDAL CHÂTEAU COLOMBIER
1,000 stickers · €60

After the results came in, the contest offered the "winner" something useful:
a thousand gold stickers for the bottles, €60.

Belgian public broadcaster RTBF ran the experiment on On n'est pas des pigeons. The wine, a €2.50 bottle from a supermarket shelf, was relabeled and entered into an international "pay-to-enter" challenge, where it took gold. Serious competitions, the same report noted, judge blind. The medal, in this one, was for sale.  Source: Wine-Searcher →

One bottle, two lessons

Why this should worry anyone selling B2B in 2026.

1

A medal you can buy proves nothing.

"We're visible in AI." "ChatGPT knows us." Every founder believes it. But a claim you award yourself, or buy, is a €60 sticker. The only thing that means anything is an independent test that nobody can lean on.

→ You can't self-certify AI visibility. You have to measure it, blind.
2

The frame decides the verdict.

The judges tasted "premium" because the label said so. Same liquid, different bottle, opposite result. Perception follows the frame. It cuts both ways. A great company with a weak frame gets skipped. Including by the AI now doing the recommending.

→ AI reads your label (sources, schema, mentions) before it names you.
The tasting you're not in the room for

AI tastes your company every day.

When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini for "a company like yours," the model names someone. It's a blind tasting, and you're not in the room.

You can't buy that verdict. You can't argue with it. You can only find out what it is, and then change it. That's the whole job.

The part with real substance under the label

We measure it. We don't sell you a sticker.
